Jeffrey Burton Russell, professor
emeritus of History at the University of California-Santa Barbara states that
Hitler believed that Christianity had weakened the German nation and had led to
its defeat in the World War II. Dr. Russell Writes, "To say 'Heil Hilter'
was an act of faith commitment. The term 'Heil' was not only a greeting; it
also implied salvation. The traditional German word for Christ is 'Heiland,'
the Savior."[1] Instead of Christ, Hitler had established himself as the savior
of Germany. We must be careful to whom or to what we say 'Heil.'
